Choose Fullstory if
Choose Fullstory when the main job is investigating an authenticated product experience across users, sessions, pages, funnels, journeys, segments, heatmaps, and replay. It is the most natural fit of the three for a product manager, product designer, UX researcher, or cross-functional experience team that wants to move from an aggregate behavioral pattern to the sessions behind it.
Fullstory is especially relevant when:
- product and UX teams will be the primary investigators;
- retroactive behavioral search and segmentation matter;
- replay needs to sit beside funnels, page flows, journeys, heatmaps, and product analytics;
- support or engineering occasionally needs console and network context, but frontend observability is not the sole buying criterion;
- a mature, broadly deployed experience-analytics platform matters more than self-service pricing.
Its main trade-offs are custom paid pricing, a broad feature surface that can require governance and training, and add-on packaging for capabilities such as mobile and Guides and Surveys.
Choose LogRocket if
Choose LogRocket when a replay is most valuable because it helps an engineer reproduce and diagnose what happened in the browser or mobile app. Its differentiator is not simply the video-like playback: it is the connection between the playback and console output, requests and responses, JavaScript errors, source-mapped stack traces, frontend performance, product events, and issue workflows.
LogRocket is especially relevant when:
- frontend engineers and technical support will use the product every week;
- a reported bug must be connected to the user’s browser, release, console, network, and performance context;
- teams want product analytics, funnels, paths, surveys, and heatmaps in the same platform as technical replay;
- native mobile SDK support matters;
- self-hosting is a firm enterprise requirement.

For a new evaluation, this means choosing the relevant Contentsquare products rather than opening a new standalone Hotjar account. Choose this path when the main job is website and conversion research: examining landing pages, ecommerce journeys, forms, content, heatmaps, recordings, surveys, feedback, and recruited interviews or tests.
Hotjar / Contentsquare is especially relevant when:
- marketing, CRO, ecommerce, digital, or website UX teams are the primary buyers;
- heatmaps and direct customer feedback are as important as recordings;
- teams want a generous free entry point for website analytics and a sampled replay library;
- researchers need surveys and a limited monthly allowance for interviews or tests;
- technical monitoring is useful, but LogRocket-level console, payload, and source-map diagnosis is not the center of the workflow.
Its main trade-offs are the current Hotjar-to-Contentsquare transition, modular packaging that must be understood before comparing prices, and technical evidence that varies materially between the lightweight current plan, legacy Hotjar, and higher Contentsquare Experience Monitoring packages.
Choose another category if
Choose another product category, or a combination of tools, when the primary requirement is not covered by these products’ center of gravity:
- For deep event analytics, advanced retention and cohort work, experimentation analysis, or a warehouse-governed event model, keep or evaluate a dedicated product-analytics platform. See the product analytics tools comparison and session replay versus product analytics.
- For B2B account analytics, one user or session is not enough. You may need account-level adoption, company segments, multiple users per customer, champion concentration, and a path from a company signal to relevant sessions.
- For a mobile-first product, run a dedicated native replay evaluation. Mobile SDK coverage, masking, gesture fidelity, crash context, WebViews, offline behavior, and app-performance data can matter more than the web feature list.
- For self-hosted replay, only LogRocket publicly advertises a self-hosted option among these three, and it is positioned for Enterprise. Otherwise, compare the broader self-hosted replay category.
- For marketing attribution, use an attribution or web-analytics system that connects acquisition source, campaign, consent, and conversion value. Replay can show a session but does not replace attribution logic.

Why these tools are compared
The products overlap enough to appear on the same shortlist. All three can help a team find a relevant session, replay a user’s path, inspect clicks and navigation, segment sessions, and connect individual examples to an aggregate pattern. All three now extend beyond replay into some combination of heatmaps, funnels, surveys, technical monitoring, or AI summaries.
That overlap hides a more important difference: each product has a different operating loop.
- Fullstory’s natural loop is behavioral pattern → segment or search → selected sessions → product or UX decision.
- LogRocket’s natural loop is error or issue → affected sessions → replay plus technical evidence → fix and verify.
- Hotjar / Contentsquare’s natural loop is website or funnel problem → heatmap and recordings → survey or feedback → optimization hypothesis.
A feature checklist alone can therefore produce the wrong decision. Two products may both display a checkmark beside “session replay,” yet one is designed to help a researcher compare product experiences while another is designed to let an engineer inspect a failing request.

How their primary buyers differ
Fullstory’s buyer: product and UX teams that need connected behavioral evidence
Fullstory is broadest when the investigation begins with a behavioral question rather than a known error. A product manager might start with a funnel decline, a UX designer with a page-level behavior pattern, a researcher with a segment of unsuccessful sessions, and a support analyst with a user-reported problem. Fullstory’s search, segmentation, heatmaps, funnels, page flows, journeys, and replay let these roles move between aggregate and individual evidence.
That breadth is useful in an authenticated SaaS product because the same platform can support exploratory analysis and focused replay review. The trade-off is that teams need shared definitions, naming, privacy rules, access controls, and an agreed investigation method. A large replay and event dataset does not automatically produce a useful research question.
LogRocket’s buyer: engineers and product teams that need diagnostic context
LogRocket is designed around the moment when “the user said it broke” is not enough. The session can be connected to console output, XHR or Fetch activity, errors, release information, network timing, source-mapped code, performance context, Redux data where configured, and the sequence of interactions preceding a failure.
Product managers can still build funnels, paths, heatmaps, and surveys. The difference is that LogRocket’s strongest reason to buy is usually technical: it reduces the distance between a user-visible problem and the evidence an engineer needs to reproduce or prioritize it.
Hotjar / Contentsquare’s buyer: marketing, CRO, and website-research teams
Hotjar became widely known for an accessible combination of recordings, heatmaps, surveys, and feedback. That research orientation remains visible in the current Contentsquare path. A marketing or CRO team can begin with a landing-page conversion problem, inspect scroll and attention patterns, watch selected replays, ask a targeted survey question, and recruit a limited number of interview or test participants.
The broader Contentsquare platform now also includes funnels, journey analysis, Error Monitoring, Performance Monitoring, Product Analytics, AI summaries, and enterprise capabilities. How session replay works at a high level
A web session replay is usually not a conventional screen video. The capture script records an initial representation of the page, changes to the Document Object Model, relevant styles, viewport changes, navigation, clicks, scrolling, input activity subject to privacy rules, and timing. The player reconstructs those changes later into a video-like sequence.

This architecture explains why replay can remain searchable and connect to events, selectors, errors, and network data. It also explains several limitations: inaccessible assets, unusual rendering technologies, cross-origin frames, privacy rules, Content Security Policy, and highly dynamic pages can affect fidelity. Native mobile replay uses different techniques. Fullstory, for example, states that its mobile replay is reconstructed from drawing operations rather than screenshots and that masked text, images, and personal data are excluded at the source. Replay shows an observed sequence. It does not establish the user’s private intention. A pause could represent reading, distraction, latency, indecision, or the user leaving the device. Repeated clicks could represent a broken button, delayed feedback, habit, accessibility difficulty, or impatience. A useful investigation connects replay to structured events, technical evidence, feedback, and user or account context.

Run a fidelity test before comparing dashboards
A useful proof of concept records the same representative workflows in each shortlisted product:
- Sign in, navigate through several SPA routes, open and close a modal, submit a form, trigger validation, and complete the primary workflow.
- Include a route containing sensitive account data and confirm what is excluded, masked, sent, retained, and searchable.
- Exercise an iframe, embedded support tool, canvas or chart, drag-and-drop control, upload, and any WebView or native flow that matters.
- Open the product in multiple tabs and cross the authentication or subdomain boundaries used in production.
- Trigger a known JavaScript exception, failed request, slow request, and API response containing sensitive fields.
- Confirm whether source maps, request sanitizers, privacy rules, release identifiers, events, and identity properties work in the captured session.
- Compare replay against a controlled test-device recording. Document omissions rather than assuming the most visually attractive replay is the most diagnostically useful.
- Measure SDK effect, ingest volume, sampling, retention, and privacy-review effort under realistic traffic.
Product and journey analytics
Fullstory
Fullstory has the strongest default claim of the three when the buyer wants session replay embedded inside a broad behavioral-analysis workflow. Its current public plan matrix includes product analytics, funnels, page-flow analysis, segmentation, user trends, retention analysis, journeys, conversion analysis, dashboards, and Omnisearch.
The practical benefit is that a team can begin with an aggregate signal and define a replay cohort without instrumenting every question in advance. A designer can compare sessions that completed onboarding with sessions that left at a particular step. A product manager can segment by a captured user property, browser, page, event, or behavioral signal and then inspect examples.
The caution is that autocapture does not remove modeling work. Teams still need meaningful names, identity, privacy rules, a stable product structure, and agreement on what constitutes an activated or successful workflow.
LogRocket
LogRocket’s current Core plan combines replay with product analytics rather than forcing a separate analytics purchase. Its pricing page lists unlimited analytics events, paths, conversion funnels, heatmaps, rage-click maps, alerts, surveys, errors, logs, and network data, while captured sessions remain the metered unit.
This is useful when product and engineering want one investigation surface. A funnel drop can lead to affected sessions, then to errors or requests around the failed step. LogRocket’s Pro layer adds AI summaries, issue detection, funnel insights, heatmap insights, feedback analysis, and Ask Galileo.
For teams already committed to a dedicated event platform, LogRocket can remain the replay and diagnostic layer instead of becoming the canonical analytics model.
Hotjar / Contentsquare
Current Contentsquare packaging requires more care because several products sit beside one another:
- Experience Analytics covers replay, heatmaps, funnels, journey analysis, and related behavioral investigation.
- Voice of Customer covers surveys and feedback.
- Product Analytics is selectable separately for deeper product behavior, cross-session journeys, retention, and related use cases.
- Experience Monitoring adds deeper error, RUM, performance, and network investigation.
This modularity can be useful: a website team can begin with Free or Growth instead of buying the complete enterprise platform. It also means a buyer should not attribute every feature on the Contentsquare website to one $49 annual-billed Experience Analytics Growth package.
Frontend debugging and observability
Fullstory can support technical investigation without being engineering-first
Fullstory’s Dev Tools can place console and network evidence beside replay. Network capture is disabled until enabled, safe headers are handled separately, and request or response bodies must be explicitly allowlisted because they can contain sensitive data. This conservative approach is useful when the organization wants detailed diagnostics without capturing payloads indiscriminately. (Fullstory Help Center)
For occasional product or support debugging, that may be sufficient. For an engineering team whose daily job is triaging exceptions, inspecting source-mapped code, monitoring frontend performance, and grouping technical issues, LogRocket has the clearer center of gravity.
LogRocket is the strongest default for frontend diagnosis
A LogRocket investigation can connect the user-visible sequence to console logs, network requests and responses, JavaScript errors, source-mapped stack traces, release context, performance, and affected users. The product’s current packaging also includes paths, funnels, heatmaps, surveys, and issue analysis, so an engineer can quantify impact instead of treating one replay as proof of prevalence.
LogRocket’s technical capture increases privacy responsibility. Its documentation states that password inputs are excluded by default but other DOM elements are captured unless additional sanitization is configured. DOM and network privacy are separate: masking a field visually does not automatically sanitize the value if it is later sent in a request. Request and response sanitizers therefore belong in the initial implementation, not in a later cleanup. (LogRocket)
Its current AI layer, Galileo, adds session and issue summaries, funnel and heatmap analysis, anomaly detection, and MCP or API access on the relevant packages. These features can prioritize evidence, but an AI-generated diagnosis should still be verified against the session, error, request, release, and source code.

Current Contentsquare has more technical monitoring than legacy Hotjar—but packaging matters
It would now be inaccurate to say Hotjar has no error or performance capability. The current Contentsquare Free and Growth material includes starter Error Monitoring and Performance Monitoring. Full Experience Monitoring is a Pro add-on and is included with Enterprise, where it can connect replay to Error Analysis, RUM, Core Web Vitals, and synchronized Network Details.

Heatmaps, surveys, and feedback
Fullstory: behavior analysis first, feedback as an add-on
Fullstory includes heatmaps, click maps, scroll maps, and page-level behavioral analysis. Guides and Surveys is an add-on to paid Analytics plans. This makes sense for a product team that wants to connect an in-product survey to existing behavioral segments and replay.
It is less natural when the entire buying case is “we need a fast website heatmap, a feedback button, an exit survey, and interview recruitment.” The capability exists, but it is not the product’s clearest category distinction.
LogRocket: broader than a debugging-only tool
LogRocket’s current Core packaging includes heatmaps, clickmaps, rage-click maps, funnels, paths, and surveys. Product managers and designers can therefore investigate behavior without handing every question to engineering.
The research workflow is still less complete than Contentsquare’s Voice of Customer and interview-recruitment combination. No current native interview-recruitment capability was verified for LogRocket, and its strongest differentiator remains technical evidence.
Hotjar / Contentsquare: the strongest integrated website-research workflow
The current Free offering combines heatmaps, Attention Maps, replay, 100 monthly survey responses, three active surveys or widgets, and five user interviews or tests. Growth and higher plans add more data, AI summaries, zone-based analysis, journey analysis, and expanded Voice of Customer packaging.
This combination is particularly useful when observation and asking are both part of the method. A heatmap can identify a page area worth investigating; recordings can show selected examples; a targeted survey can collect self-reported context; interviews can explore the problem directly.
The evidence types should not be collapsed into one conclusion. Heatmaps aggregate interaction, replays show individual sequences, surveys capture self-report, and interviews provide qualitative depth. Each has different bias and coverage.

Session search and segmentation
A replay library is only useful when a team can find the right session. “Watch random recordings” is not a scalable research method.
Fullstory
Fullstory’s strength is broad behavioral search across events, elements, pages, users, sessions, device context, and experience signals. Teams can define a segment after the data was collected, compare it with another group, and open replay examples from the result. This is particularly useful for questions that were not anticipated during instrumentation.
LogRocket
LogRocket supports filtering by identity, session properties, device and browser, URL, events, release, errors, issues, network conditions, and performance context. An engineering team can begin with an exception or affected release; a product team can begin with a funnel or behavior.
The quality of search depends on identity and release hygiene. Pass stable user IDs and relevant custom traits, establish a release convention, and avoid sending unnecessary personal information.
Hotjar / Contentsquare
Contentsquare supports replay filtering, frustration signals, user IDs, pageviews, events, variables, segments, and analysis context. Current Free offers materially more aggregate session coverage than legacy Hotjar Free, but replay remains sampled on the Free plan.
Sampling is not inherently invalid, but it changes what the library can answer. A rare browser-specific failure or a small enterprise-account segment can be absent from a sampled replay set even when aggregate analytics recorded the sessions.
B2B account context
All three products can carry some form of account identifier through user properties, traits, custom variables, or integrations. That can support a search such as “show sessions for account 4827.” It is not the same as a first-class B2B account model.
A B2B team may need to answer:
- Did the customer account adopt Reporting broadly, or did one champion generate most activity?
- Which users inside the company completed the workflow?
- Which product areas are missing?
- Is a decline isolated to one user or visible across the account?
- How does the account compare with similar companies?
- Which sessions explain a change in account-level adoption?
Fullstory’s multi-organization administration should not be confused with customer-account analytics. LogRocket’s custom user traits do not automatically calculate account adoption. Contentsquare Experience Analytics custom variables and segments do not automatically create a company portfolio view; buyers who need that view should evaluate the separately packaged Product Analytics Pro Account Analytics capability against their exact B2B requirements.

Mobile support
“Mobile support” can refer to three different things:
- replaying a responsive website in a mobile browser;
- replaying a WebView inside a native app;
- capturing a fully native iOS, Android, React Native, or Flutter interface.

Fullstory
Fullstory for Mobile Apps is a paid add-on with current setup documentation for Android, iOS, Flutter, React Native, and Cordova or Capacitor. Its documentation states that mobile replay reconstructs drawing operations rather than recording screenshots and masks text, images, and personal data at the source by default. LogRocket
LogRocket currently documents SDKs for iOS, Android, React Native, and Flutter. This makes it a strong candidate for teams that want the same engineering-oriented replay and issue model across web and mobile. The proof of concept should still test gestures, navigation, crashes, privacy, performance impact, and unsupported views on the actual framework. (LogRocket)
Hotjar / Contentsquare
Contentsquare has a broader native mobile-app platform and documentation for app and WebView replay. That capability should not be treated as an automatic entitlement of the website-oriented Free or Growth plan replacing Hotjar. Ask for the exact mobile product, SDK, session allowance, retention, masking model, and price.
A mobile-first team should compare these candidates with dedicated mobile-replay products rather than choosing solely from their web feature lists.
Privacy, masking, and access
Session replay can expose form values, account names, messages, documents, support data, URLs, request bodies, tokens, and identifiers. A privacy review is part of implementation, not a post-launch setting.
Fullstory
Fullstory’s Private by Default model supports three levels:
- Exclude: do not capture the element or its child interactions.
- Mask: preserve a wireframe-like representation and interaction context without the original text.
- Unmask: capture the approved content.
When Private by Default is enabled, masked capture is the starting state. Fullstory also separates network capture and body allowlisting so teams can approve specific safe fields. (Fullstory Help Center)
LogRocket
LogRocket never records password inputs, but its DOM documentation says other elements are captured by default unless configured otherwise. Teams can sanitize individual elements, all inputs, all text, images, attributes, classes, URLs, requests, and responses on the client.
The most important implementation detail is that DOM and network privacy are separate. Hiding a field in replay does not prevent its value from appearing in a request body. Network sanitizers must be tested with real production payload shapes. (LogRocket)
Hotjar / Contentsquare
New Contentsquare accounts are configured to mask visible page text and numbers by default; inputs and textareas are never captured, while identity and custom fields require separate review. This differs from legacy Hotjar suppression settings, so migrating customers must review the new rules rather than assuming their old configuration applies. Access and governance
For every product:
- define who can view replay and technical data;
- separate admin, analyst, support, and developer access where supported;
- document consent and lawful-basis decisions;
- exclude sensitive routes before capture;
- test masking in the built application rather than only reading selectors;
- review identity properties, URLs, custom events, console logs, and request payloads;
- establish deletion and retention processes;
- repeat the review after major UI, SDK, or routing changes.
Privacy controls are technical safeguards, not a replacement for legal and compliance review.
Implementation effort
Fullstory: moderate setup, higher analytical governance
The basic web snippet is straightforward. Production value depends on identity, properties, privacy, event and page conventions, allowed network data, team permissions, and reusable segments. Larger teams should define who owns taxonomy and saved searches before the replay library becomes difficult to navigate.
LogRocket: moderate-to-high setup when used properly
The SDK can begin recording quickly, but the engineering value requires more:
- initialize the SDK early enough to capture the relevant requests and errors;
- pass stable identity and release information;
- upload or expose source maps before errors occur;
- configure DOM, URL, console, and network privacy;
- test request and response sanitizers;
- validate frameworks, wrappers, iframes, WebSockets, and mobile SDK behavior;

A website team can install the current tag and begin with replay, heatmaps, funnels, and surveys. Advanced work requires page mappings, zones, events, variables, segments, survey targeting, privacy review, and potentially Experience Monitoring or Product Analytics configuration.
A legacy Hotjar-to-Contentsquare migration is not an in-place rename. Current documentation says the customer installs a new Contentsquare tag and cannot migrate existing Hotjar data. Experience Analytics Growth presents full replay at its 7,000-session entry level; above 20,000 sessions, current documentation describes 15% sampling with a minimum of 20,000 replays. What drives total cost
The invoice is only part of total cost. Compare:
- captured sessions: especially whether all sessions, a sample, or conditionally selected sessions are recorded;
- retention: replay, analytics, errors, and exports may have different periods;
- replay volume: aggregate sessions and stored replays can be metered separately;
- mobile sessions: determine whether web and mobile share one quota;
- seats: particularly for LogRocket configurations and Fullstory paid contracts;
- advanced analytics: journeys, dashboards, AI, enterprise governance, and data export;
- surveys and feedback: Fullstory add-on packaging and separate Contentsquare Voice of Customer plans;

Limits of the review sample
This is the most important caveat in the rating section: the Hotjar by Contentsquare profile spans the legacy Hotjar product, while new evaluators now enter the broader Contentsquare platform. Contentsquare also has a separate G2 profile with a different review population. Do not blend those ratings or imply that every Hotjar review evaluates the current Free, Growth, Product Analytics, Experience Monitoring, or mobile experience.

Do not let the decimal choose the product
The difference between 4.3, 4.5, and 4.6 does not answer the buying question. A website marketer can be better served by a 4.3-rated tool built around heatmaps and feedback than by a 4.6-rated engineering tool. An engineer can be better served by LogRocket even when another platform has broader journey analysis. The workflow, implementation, data policy, and total cost matter more than a tenth of a star.
Using them with Mixpanel, Amplitude, PostHog, or GA4
Session replay and structured analytics answer different parts of an investigation.
A structured product-analytics platform is usually better for:
- event taxonomies and canonical definitions;
- cohorts and retention;
- experiments and feature analysis;
- large-scale funnels and behavioral segmentation;
- governed metric definitions;
- warehouse or activation workflows.
Replay is usually better for:
- seeing the sequence behind a metric;
- checking whether the interface behaved as expected;
- observing visible states that were not modeled as events;
- selecting examples for product, UX, support, or engineering review;
- connecting a reported issue to the actual session.
With Mixpanel or Amplitude
Keep the existing event model when it is trusted. Link an event, funnel step, user ID, or session identifier to Fullstory or LogRocket for evidence. Current Contentsquare Free documentation also lists Mixpanel integration, and its separate Product Analytics offering may overlap more directly with the existing tool.
Do not rebuild a mature taxonomy solely because a replay vendor offers funnels. First decide which system owns the metric and which system supplies evidence.
With PostHog
A team already using PostHog should compare the specialist value of another replay product against the cost of another SDK and data store. LogRocket may still be justified for deeper frontend diagnosis; Fullstory for a broader product and UX investigation workflow; Contentsquare for website research, feedback, and enterprise experience analysis.
With GA4
Keep GA4 or another web-analytics and attribution system for acquisition channels, campaigns, landing-page traffic, consent-aware measurement, and marketing outcomes. Hotjar / Contentsquare can add heatmaps, replay, surveys, and website-research context, but replay does not recreate attribution.
Integration principles
- Use the same stable user ID where lawful and necessary.
- Add a safe session link rather than copying sensitive replay data into tickets.
- Pass account IDs only when the team has a defined B2B use case and access model.
- Align event and page definitions across systems.
- Document which source owns conversion, retention, performance, and account metrics.
- Do not assume matching user counts when sampling, consent, ad blocking, retention, and identity rules differ.
Illustrative investigation: the B2B Reporting workflow
Illustrative scenario: The following company, users, metrics, and behavior are fictional. They demonstrate an investigation method and are not customer evidence.
A B2B SaaS company has a Reporting workflow. Its aggregate data shows:
- report completion fell;
- total page visits stayed stable;
- some users repeatedly click Export;
- a JavaScript error appears in one browser;
- several customer companies have different adoption patterns;
- the marketing landing page for Reporting also has a conversion problem.
This is not one problem. It is at least four connected questions:
- Did the in-product workflow become harder to complete?
- Is a frontend defect affecting one browser?
- Are adoption differences concentrated in particular customer accounts or users?
- Is the public landing page failing for a separate marketing reason?

A product or UX team would naturally begin with the behavioral pattern.
- Define the Reporting funnel or completion behavior.
- Compare completed and incomplete sessions.
- Segment by browser, release, user property, and—where supplied—company ID.
- Search for repeated interactions with the Export control and related experience signals.
- Open selected replay examples at the relevant funnel or event moment.
- Inspect page flow, heatmap, and journey context around Reporting.
- Use Dev Tools when a selected session contains an error or suspicious request.
- Save a segment so the team can compare behavior after a fix.
Fullstory would be especially useful for deciding whether the problem is isolated to one UI state or appears across several paths. It can carry a company identifier as a property, but it does not automatically calculate account-level adoption breadth or tell the team whether one champion generated most of a company’s activity.

An engineering team would naturally begin with the browser-specific failure.
- Filter the Reporting workflow by browser and release.
- Find the JavaScript exception or AI-grouped issue.
- Open the affected sessions.
- Replay the moments before and after Export.
- Inspect console output and the source-mapped stack trace.
- Check whether the Export request fired, failed, returned an unexpected body, or completed slowly.
- Compare network timing and frontend performance with unaffected sessions.
- Quantify how many sessions and users were affected.

LogRocket can also build the product funnel and show heatmaps. Its advantage in this scenario is the direct route from a visible failed export to the request, exception, release, and code context.
Hotjar / Contentsquare
A marketing or website-UX team would naturally begin with the public landing-page problem.
- Review the landing-page funnel and compare device or traffic segments.
- Inspect click, scroll, and Attention Maps.
- Watch recordings from visitors who reached but did not use the primary call to action.
- Trigger a short survey after an abandonment or at a relevant page moment.
- Review direct feedback associated with the page.
- Recruit selected visitors for interviews or tests where appropriate.
- Use current Error Monitoring or Performance Monitoring if the landing-page problem appears technical.
- Test a revised content hierarchy, form, or call to action and compare the result.
For the authenticated Reporting product, Contentsquare can still supply replay, funnels, journey analysis, and monitoring. The lighter Hotjar-style workflow is less naturally suited than LogRocket to payload-level debugging and less naturally suited than an account-centric model to comparing adoption across customer companies.
What replay alone cannot prove
None of the products can prove from replay alone that:
- repeated Export clicks mean the user was confused;
- a pause means the user was reading;
- the JavaScript error caused every failed report;
- a company with fewer visits is at risk;
- the landing-page copy caused the conversion decline;
- one visible session represents the wider user population.
Repeated clicks may indicate missing feedback, latency, a defect, habit, an accessibility problem, or impatience. The browser error may be causal, correlated, or unrelated to another failure path. Stable visits can coexist with lower completion because users return repeatedly, abandon late, or use a narrower part of Reporting.
When structured analytics or account analysis is also required
Use structured analytics to measure:
- completion rate and its denominator;
- browser and release impact;
- the prevalence of the error;
- successful versus failed request outcomes;
- repeat use and retention;

Preserve definitions before switching
Export or document:
- active user and session definitions;
- page, event, funnel, and journey definitions;
- identity and account properties;
- saved segments and filters;
- privacy and exclusion rules;
- consent behavior;
- source-map and release processes;
- alert and issue integrations;
- replay URLs used in support or research repositories;
- retention and deletion obligations.
A visually similar funnel can produce a different number after migration because the products define sessions, pageviews, sampling, identity, and event timing differently.
Plan the retention gap
Replay history usually does not transfer between vendors. Keep the old system read-only for the required period where contract and policy permit. Do not assume a new plan’s retention applies retroactively.

The source order was:

The comparison did not use vendor comparison pages as neutral evidence. Vendor-authored product and documentation pages were used only for that vendor’s own capabilities, packaging, limits, or implementation.
No hands-on laboratory test was performed. Statements about replay fidelity are therefore based on current documentation and should be validated with a proof of concept in the buyer’s actual application.
The Hotjar comparison required special treatment because:
